(Everything is better with a coffee in hand, right?!)⁠ ⁠ Hopefully, it won't be too much longer before we can offer you a seat too! And a little space to stop for a bite to eat, we dream of the day! But for the moment still, it's takeaways all the way. ⁠ ⁠ By serving @jutecoffee from their local roastery, The Cafē are always looking to help reduce their impact and move ever closer to waste-free, as are the rest of us. ⁠ ⁠ Bringing along your reusable cup goes a VERY long way to helping that impact. ⁠ ⁠ We use a scary 2.5 billion disposable coffee cups a year in the UK! 2.5 BILLION! Now the weather is warming up, and we're feeling l Now the weather is warming up, and we're feeling like spring is about to err, spring, we just thought we'd throw in a little tree-planting memory jog! ⁠ ⁠ Last time we spoke about it we were all drowning in homeschooling, plus it was about -30 degrees. So probably not the *best* time to start planting oak trees. 😆⁠ ⁠ However, now is a GREAT time to get planning! If you're planting one at home a little online search for species you like is really exciting. Will you be going all indigenous or mixing it up a little? Show and tell, please! ⁠ ⁠ It's something really great to get the kids involved with too, they'll love picking one and digging away in the garden! And it'll be lovely to see it grow with them over time too. ⁠ ⁠ If you don't have space outdoors, or even know where to start, the @sustainableharboroughcommunity and @harboroughwoodland groups are a fantastic port of call. They'll be able to help with local initiatives and schemes to get involved with. ⁠ ⁠ Please tag us in any that you do plant! Really easy eco swaps! ⁠ ⁠ As we've been open Really easy eco swaps! ⁠ ⁠ As we've been open a year, it blows our mind to think how many saves have been made collectively! Thousands! (Okay, we don't know a precise number 😂). ⁠ ⁠ It can be hard to imagine how you can contribute, or if it will really make any difference. But it absolutely does. We're so thankful for every switch and change that has been made, we know it's not easy at first! ⁠ ⁠ One very beautiful place to start is over at @the_stationery_cupboard for some super-duper, easy-peasy, eco swaps. ⁠ ⁠ Gorgeous greetings cards without plastic sleeves, pencils instead of plastic pens, paper tape instead of Sellotape (in a whole host of amazing rainbow colours!), plus amazing craft supplies and kids activities too - all plastic-free and responsibly-sourced. ⁠ ⁠ And as we start heading towards the end of lockdown (we are, right?!) and the world slowly creeps back to a new way of working; it's increasingly important to look after ourselves as best we can mentally and physically. ⁠ ⁠ Charlie from @the_stationery_cupboard has a range of incredible magazines to do just that! Thought-provoking, calming, empowering and mindful magazines; all totally plastic-free too, for a very easy switch. ⁠ Her range increases by the hour (true story, every time we turn our backs she's whipped another shelf up!) and last week these new Bullet Diaries and Wellness Journals arrived, something we're obsessing with here at the Village.⁠ ⁠ So you WILL see our most organised and mindful selves serving you from now on. A huge thanks to everyone so far that has borrowed A huge thanks to everyone so far that has borrowed our litter-picker-grabber-sticks (actual name) to spruce up your local area and beyond! 💚⁠ ⁠ We're lucky, we live in a tidy town, and yet everyone that has litter-picked so far has been shocked at the volume they've found - bags-full even on a short distance. 😢⁠ ⁠ Once you spot it, you end up noticing more and more. So any little bit we can do to -⁠ ⁠ 1. Stop littering in the first place (who does this?!) ⁠ 2. Remove any litter you do see⁠ ⁠ is a fantastic step towards a cleaner and brighter future! And less damaging for local wildlife, too. ⁠ ⁠ You may have noticed some green origami hearts at @refill.revolution or dotted elsewhere around town, to support the #showthelove campaign. ⁠ ⁠ Locally, this has been spearheaded by @sustainableharboroughcommunity, aimed at showing the love for things you'd like to protect from climate change. ⁠ ⁠ We've shared lots on our Stories to give you some ideas as a starting point, and litter picking is a really great start! Ahh, our Susie. 💚⁠ ⁠ Now the weather is war Ahh, our Susie. 💚⁠ ⁠ Now the weather is warming up (we've nearly made it through, people!) so are our plants, which makes them altogether happier. ⁠ ⁠ Apparently, the optimum temperature is 12 degrees. Once we're securely past this, along with longer, lighter days, then our little green friends will thrive once more. Hooray! ⁠ ⁠ @windowsillplants have all the beautiful, beautiful plants you could need to make your home a happy place. Along with plenty of cool accessories to care for them and make them their most happy selves too. ⁠ ⁠ With an eye for a beautiful leaf and an inner knowledge for your most-suited green friend; she has plenty of expert advice, plant psychic abilities and a good amount of sass to throw into any chat here at the Village. ⁠ ⁠ Mother's Day isn't too far away, and we couldn't think of a better gift (hint, hint) than a beautiful plant, maybe a pot too. Or a beautiful watering can. Or a moss stick. Anything really, we'll take the lot. ⁠ ⁠ Anyway, we've got distracted. Susie will be teaching us all about repotting plants soon, so if you've got roots hanging from the bottom of your pots(!), then March is the time! Foodie Saturday! ⁠ ⁠ Our favourite fakeaway, a Foodie Saturday! ⁠ ⁠ Our favourite fakeaway, always, is a delicious curry from @mistrykitchen, yum.⁠ ⁠ Home-cooked by Varsha and packed full of heaps of beautiful veggies, they're definitely more nutritious (and dare we say tastier?! Yes. We dare.) than a regular takeaway. ⁠ ⁠ On the menu today, there is - ⁠ ⁠ 💚 Rajma (kidney bean curry)⁠ ⁠ 💚 Vegetable Dhansak⁠ ⁠ 💚 Spinach & Chickpea Tofu⁠ ⁠ All of which are vegan, gluten-free and can be frozen at home - if you've got the willpower not to eat it straight away! ⁠ ⁠ And as it's Saturday, Varsha will have stacks of Nan Buns, Samosa Puffs and Gujarati Pasties as a delicious side. Team @refill.revolution, looking all Charlie's Ang Team @refill.revolution, looking all Charlie's Angels! Which in a way, they are. Ready like superheroes to scoop all the pasta you need and save the world from plastic! (Too far? Possibly.) ⁠ ⁠ But they are pretty awesome. Shopping plastic-free isn't the easiest thing you get your head around at first. It's hard to know where to start, what to buy or what on earth we might need for the week ahead. ⁠ ⁠ However they're there for us, they understand. They know what we need and just how much to squidge into our, probably quite inappropriate, containers. They know the answers to even our daftest of questions and never make us feel silly. ⁠ ⁠ As always, they've been working hard behind the scenes, researching new suppliers, and bringing us lots of cool, new products. ⁠ ⁠ Just in the last couple of weeks alone, they've added toothpaste with fluoride (in brilliant glass jars with a wooden scoop, so no need for nasty squeezy plastic tubes), vegan burger mix, packs of toilet roll instead of singular rolls, and brilliant silicone food cover lids (to replace clingfilm). ⁠ ⁠ If you've not shopped the Refill way before then it's worth a little try as an alternative to the supermarket (and who can bear that at the moment?!). You soon get to know the ways, learn what to bring with you, and discover some amazing products along the way. We're trying to get into a little self-care routin We're trying to get into a little self-care routine here at the Village, take two minutes to look after ourselves a little better each day. Or at least, once a week. (Fear not, we are doing this at home! 😳)⁠ ⁠ @refill.revolution and @woad_natural_beauty have some amazing skincare and beauty products to help nourish, revive and repair our frazzled selves. The recent cold weather has really taken it's toll, as has lockdown version 4397, homeschooling, working from home, missing family & friends, and everything else. So a little five minute moisturise can go an awfully long way to feeling human. ⁠ We're big fans of the @suneetalondon Lavomango and Happy Orange Body Mousse for our legs & arms, and the Olive Oil Hand & Foot Cream for our tired old soles (plus sandal weather is almost here so it can't hurt to get our feet all ship-shape now can it?!). ⁠ ⁠ @woad_natural_beauty have you covered for soothing pillow sprays, beautiful face masks and calming cleansers. Hands up who has tried @thebeardedpersian's kombuc Hands up who has tried @thebeardedpersian's kombucha yet? 🙋🏽‍♀️⁠ ⁠ Whilst the idea of a fermented tea might not sound totally appealing in theory, in reality, it's delicious. ⁠ ⁠ Surprisingly light, really refreshing, and plenty of health benefits to boot; we're all hooked here at the Village! ⁠ ⁠ With probiotic properties and naturally sparkling, it tastes beautiful and is really beneficial for your digestion and gut health. We like to start our day with a glass to give us a little zing! (And we could all do with a zing at the minute, hey?).⁠ ⁠ Created by Alan, following his mum's recipe that they tweaked together, he is full of knowledge and enthusiasm for kombucha and how it's helped to improve his own digestive health. ⁠ ⁠ When time's are a little more normal (we're thinking, March, right?! Maybe?) and you have a spare 20 mins, Alan can chat all about the benefits of kombucha to you, should you so wish. Not nice. ⁠ ⁠ Quite possibly the easiest and most impactful swap you can make would be to buy a reusable water bottle. ⁠ ⁠ We can't stop raving about these Neon Kactus ones from @refill.revolution - which are sturdy, beautifully designed, and made from glass, which actually makes your water/juice/gin (hey, no judgement here, anything goes at the moment) taste TOTALLY DIFFERENT. Like, nice, for a start. Instead of tasting like plastic, and we won't even start on what that could be doing to our insides. ⁠ ⁠ These bottles are £16, which sounds a heavy investment at first but actually, you're in profit if - ⁠ ⁠ 💚 You buy the occasional bottle of water with a lunch out, generally, these are £1-£2 each = 8-16 plastic bottles before you're in profit. If you buy one lunch a week that'll save 52 bottles a year from being thrown away too.⁠ ⁠ 💚 If you buy multi-packs with your online shopping then £3 (for a 12 pack of Highland Spring) = 6 packs before you're in profit. Being a Social Enterprise means those products are not created for profit, but instead are either sustainably, ethically or Fair Trade sourced by Just. ⁠ ⁠ They had a restock last week and launched some new product lines to the Village, including - ⁠ ⁠ 🚲 Wallets, purses and accessories made from recycled bike inner tubes made by @cycleofgooduk⁠ ⁠ 🎨 Beautiful hand-painted ceramics sourced by @namasteuk ⁠ 🥛 Gorgeous new vases, jars and glassware made from recycled glass by @divine.distribution ⁠ ⁠ Aren't they cool? The flakes are falling all around us, which makes for a nice, calm start to the week and a very refreshing change! Hope you're all enjoying the snow too. 🥰 (Sure, we have 492 layers on, but let's not cloud our romantic bubble).⁠ ⁠ One thing we all absolutely love here are our plants. You know it, we know it, Susie knows it. We're a sucker for those leafy greens. ⁠ ⁠ With Valentine's Day just around the corner (Sunday, date fans!) we're looking beyond the romantic version, and all about sending some love instead. ⁠ ⁠ We're not sure there can BE any better way to send love than with a beautiful plant. There's always something quite hopeful about buying a plant, don't you think? (Like, hoping to keep it alive for a start.) But hope that it'll grow and blossom into something AMAZING, that you can admire every day. ⁠ ⁠ With a plant for all budgets and lots of accessory ideas too (plant pot, watering cans, funny signs) they're an easy option for a doorstep drop on your lockdown walk. ⁠ ⁠ So whoever you are sending love to this weekend, @windowsillplants have you covered. At the start of January we chatted about making a At the start of January we chatted about making a change for the month, switching out one plastic item for an eco alternative.⁠ ⁠ We are also aware that we went into lockdown. And the schools shut. So we know all bets are off. All fizzled out along with Dry January within the first few days! ⁠ ⁠ But, despite that, we were just wondering if anyone did manage to make any eco-swaps? Did you change to glass-bottled milk? Or get your pasta from Refill instead? Tell us if you did, this needs to be celebrated!⁠ ⁠ Have you got another switch planned for February? A delayed Jan-plan or just starting afresh? ⁠ ⁠ Each and every change helps! ⁠ ⁠ A great place to make changes is with your skincare and beauty routine. Say bye-bye to plastic-wrapped cotton wool, and hello to reusable facial rounds or cloths from @theconscioussewist. ⁠ ⁠ There are also handy little laundry bags available too, just pop your reusables in there when washing to save them from getting lost. Awww, one today! We're having a party filled with Awww, one today! We're having a party filled with balloons, party poppers, and glitter.⁠ ⁠ ⁠ Of course we're not. They are TERRIBLE things. 😝⁠ (Actually, the Villagers mostly wanted to have a rave! But we're not doing that either, of course!).⁠ ⁠ But we are open as usual for your essentials and any extras whilst you're with us.⁠ ⁠ Valentine's Day is only a week away. We're changing the emphasis slightly to sending love to whoever may need it, there's a lot going on at the minute, we think most people could do with cheering up! ⁠ ⁠ We have care parcels, treat boxes, vinyl heart badges, gift vouchers, magazines, cosmetics, crafting ideas, sewing kits, bamboo socks, gardening tools, beautiful houseplants - a million gift ideas for anyone and everyone. ⁠ ⁠ Most of our Villagers are offering a Click & Collect service, or can do, and there are all kinds of foodie options if you're treating someone to dinner too (at home or a doorstep drop!).⁠ ⁠ Verity from @feedme_leics is baking a special treat box selection to preorder, which you can also combine with a greetings card and/or flowers too.⁠ ⁠ And Philomena from @theflowerbar_harborough is taking orders for her beautiful blooms too!
